34% of Nigerians Believe Indecent Dressing is Main Cause of Rape

The NOI Polls, which is an opinion polling and research organisation, established by the current Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and named after her, yesterday released results from its poll carried out in January 2013, in commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child.
NOI Polls revealed:
"In order to commemorate this event and honour the girl child this special day, NOI Polls Limited released one of the polls we conducted in the first quarter of the year 2013, which was focused on the challenges faced by the girl child in Nigeria and indeed the world over as a result of the incidence of rape among women in the society.
34 percent of the participants believed that indecent dressing was the main cause of rape in the society; 18 percent believed unemployment was the cause; nine percent believed it was caused by lack of moral values and another nine percent believed it was caused by the inability to control sexual urges; seven percent said it was caused by faulty upbringing. Five percent of the participants believed rape was caused by illiteracy about women's rights, ungodliness and bad company.

7 Health Benefits Of self service

Considering that up to 95 percent of men and 89 to 92 percent of women self service, it's probably safe to say that no one really needs much convincing to keep doing it.

But if you'd like a hand giving yourself a hand, here's something to get you started:

1. self service helps you sleep. That's because getting handsy with yourself lowers blood pressure and produces endorphins, the chemicals responsible for helping ease stress and increase relaxation.

2. self service relieves cramps. Flying solo during that time of the month increases blood flow to the pelvic area, easing pain. The intensity of climax can also help — and it sure beats a hot water bottle.

3. self service prevents prostate cancer. Toxins build up in the uroprivate part tract, leading to disease—but self service flushes those toxins out of the body, making men who release more than five times a week a third less likely to develop prostate cancer.

4. self service alleviates urinary tract infections. Once you're tired of drinking all that cranberry juice, turn to the other cure for UTIs: self service. It helps flush out old bacteria from the cervix, giving UTI sufferers some much-needed relief.

5. self service might relieve Restless Leg Syndrome symptoms.Researchers estimate that 10 percent of people suffer from RLS, a neurological disorder categorized by a constant urge to move the limbs, often causing leg pain, cramps, tingling, and itching. But there might be help in sight—a letter published in the medical journal Sleep Medicine reported on a patient who used s*x and self service to relieve symptoms of RLS.

6. self service boosts your immunity. Ejaculation releases the hormone cortisol. It's a stress hormone, but in small doses, it can help strengthen and maintain your immune system.

7. self service makes s*x better. Practice makes perfect, as the saying goes. s*x therapists strongly recommend that women who have not had an climax begin by pleasuring themselves. This puts them in touch with the private part pleasure that they like.

Gov. Yero Grants Pardon To Nine Prisoners In Kaduna

Gov. Ramalan Yero of Kaduna State has pardoned nine prison inmates serving various jail terms in the state, an official said on Thursday in Kaduna.

The state's Director General on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Ahmed Maiyaki who disclosed this in a statement, said Yero's action was contained in a letter to the state's Solicitor-General.

The statement said the letter conveying the decision was dated Sept. 26 and that the governor's gesture was part of activities to commemorate the country's 53rd Independence Anniversary.

"He approved the release of the convicts as recommended by the Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy in exercise of his powers under Section 212 of the Constitution (as amended).

"The prisoners affected were in four categories, A to D, and three of the beneficiaries have six months left to serve, while two others were pardoned on age grounds.

"One was freed on the ground of ill-health which is likely to terminate in death, while the remaining three are special cases on amnesty," it said.

The statement said the prison inmates pardoned by the governor include Ubale Umar, Sule Jibrin and Yahaya Mohammed.

The rest are Ademola Apanisile, Shittu Oladele, Kolawole Ilesanmi, Suleiman Arogundade, Ali Sale and Daniel Vincent.

Top 10 Amazing Parenting Lessons

Multiple rules, compartmentalizing your child's day, hobby classes and tough competition – my mum would brush them off with 'we didn't have all this in our times.' Whenever my mom notices me running around from one end of town to the other, or hears my excuses on why I just can't find time to call her, she would talk about how easy parenting was 'back then'. One day, I sat her down and asked her what it was to be a parent 30 years ago, and why our lives as parents are so difficult. Here are 10 fantastic things she shared that shifted my approach to parenting for the better.

1. The rules weren't bombarded: We never spelt out the rules to you and just reminded you to take care when you crossed the line. Today's parents want to control their children and it makes little sense.

2. Tiffin-box approach: Don't compartmentalize your children's lives. You fragment their lives into tiny pieces and expect them to learn everything.

3. Race it up: Don't rush them into doing everything. We never rushed you and your life was not dictated by a time table. In your quest to doing everything, you are rushing through the day leaving no time for you and your children to enjoy those special moments.

4. Abundance of time: You try and give your kids everything in abundance except, your time. Kids don't need anything if they have you. We were always there for our kids and you have accomplished so much.

5. Don't compare:  Don't let milestones and what others say about your child bog you down. Take it as constructive criticism and move on.  Children feel the pressure of your expectations.

6. Winners only: Encourage your children to be the best at what they do and also teach them to accept failure. They need to learn to deal with failure and victory with the same spirit.

7. Food tantrums: If you have so many tantrums such as no fried stuff, no sugary foods, no junk and more, then your kids are bound to voice their opinion too. They learn by observing you and if you don't clarify why it's right to avoid certain foods, they get adamant. This adds to the fussy eater syndrome. And, I thought just my kids were fussy eaters.

8. Friends and not acquaintances: It's nice to meet new people but better to make a few good friends so your kids can form stronger bonds.  We made few friends but good friends. You are just catching up with people and so are your kids. If they are meeting new kids each evening, how are they going to establish strong and everlasting friendships?

9. Barter time: We didn't give you options to trade how much time should be spent watching TV so that you could have longer conversations on the phone. Or, how much greens you must eat so that we could treat you to chocolates. Don't be on a constant barter with your kids and say things as they are.

10. Contentment & confidence: Parenting is not a race and kids are not athletes who need to be trained to win. We were content with our lives and that's the most important thing. If you give into the competition, you are passing on that feeling of dissatisfaction to your kids. We were confident of our abilities and didn't believe that someone else had better parenting skills that us.

‘I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant Until I Gave Birth on the Bathroom Floor’

A pregnant mother who didn't realise she was expecting gave birth on her bathroom floor in the middle of the night – while her partner slept through it all.

Nadia Watson, 22, of Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, woke up suffering from what she thought were period pains but collapsed to the floor and went into labour.

She screamed in agony for more than an hour as she delivered 7lbs 11oz baby Poppy by herself.

But boyfriend Lewis McSweeney didn't wake up – even though she shrieked so loudly her concerned neighbours dialled 999.

A fleet of police cars and ambulances arrived minutes after the birth and Lewis, also 22, only arose from his slumber when Nadia presented their newborn daughter.

Nadia said: 'He can literally sleep through anything – fire alarms, the lot. I have no idea how he does it.

I went into our bedroom after I had given birth and showed Lewis the baby but he just went back to sleep.

'I woke him up again and he realised what had happened and he was completely in shock.'

Nadia had a rare undiagnosed pregnancy and was unaware she was carrying a child – she gained very little weight and remained a size ten throughout.

She had two retail jobs – at Frankie and Benny's restaurant and Blockbuster video – and would even help her pregnant neighbour carry her shopping.

'It was a complete surprise – I didn't have a clue that I was pregnant,' she said.

Boko Haram: First Lady In Special Intercession For Nigeria In Seoul

The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, on Friday in Seoul organised a special prayer session for peace, security and progress of Nigeria.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the prayer was held as part of the Annual Church growth Conference organised by the Yoido Full Gospel Church in Seoul.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the prayer session, the First Lady said that it was her earnest desire to ensure that there was peace in Nigeria so that development could be achieved.

"We prayed for the security of the country. We prayed for the citizens and the government. We also prayed for peace and progress for our land.

"God can solve any problem that you ask Him in prayer. We believe that there's nothing God cannot do and I believe He has heard our cry for today because He said when you call upon Him, He will not leave you alone.''

"We've called upon God for Nigeria and I believe everything will be well with the land. There'll be no militancy, Boko Haram or random killings anymore, everything will stop.

"God will touch their hearts so that they will know that it is evil to take lives because it is only when there is peace that we can move forward and have meaningful development."

Pastor Andrew Omale, a pastor at the Aso Villa chapel, who also attended the prayer sessions, told newsmen that prayer was important at all time.

"Even nations that were on the brink of collapse got revived with prayer. With the numerical strength we have, we can pray for economic revival.

"What they've done here is mind blowing, from instability to a strong economy and this can be traced to Yoido's prayer for South Korea. Prayer can turn things around." (NAN)

STF Confirms Death Of 11 Villagers, Five Cattle Thieves In Plateau

The Special Task Force (STF) maintaining peace in Plateau, has confirmed the death of 11 people during an attack by cow thieves at Pandadi Village in the Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau on Thursday.

The STF Commander, Maj.-Gen. David Enetie, who confirmed the incident in Jos, also confirmed the killing of five of the attackers by the STF.

Enetie said that the cattle rustlers, who hit the village in the morning, killed eight members of one family and two others while a neighbour, who came out to assist the victims, was also killed.

He disclosed that STF operatives, who rushed to the scene of the incident, killed five of the suspected cattle rustlers.

The commander said that the corpses of the five suspected cattle rustlers had been deposited at the Mangu Police Station, while those of the 11 villagers had been taken to Plateau State Specialist Hospital.

He explained that the incident was not part of any crisis.

"What happened here was not crisis; it was a clear case of cow theft by a group of cattle rustlers."

Enetie said that the cow thieves rustled 20 cows but could not escape with their loot after the STF's quick intervention.

He commended the intelligence unit of the STF for its timely information that enabled his men to quickly storm the scene of the incident; calling for more information from members of the public to enable the STF rid the state of criminals. (NAN)

No Work, No Pay, Jonathan Stops ASUU Salary

As the ongoing strike by Academic Staff Union of
Universities, ASUU, enters the fourth month, there are strong
indications that the Federal Government has commenced the
implementation of the "No Work, No Pay" rule.

Vanguard gathered from a reliable source at the National
Universities Commission, NUC, that the government has passed a
directive to the various universities governing councils to stop
payment of salaries of the striking lecturers.

The ASUU Zonal Chairman in Abuja, Mr Clement Chup confirmed
this yesterday after a zonal conference of ASUU, University of
Abuja chapter, which took place at the Gwagwalada campus to
review the nationwide strike.

He said his colleagues were yet to receive their September
salaries.

According to him, "we have resorted to other welfare
strategies to cope with the effect of the strike, particularly to
contain the various attempts by government to break the
resolve of the union.

The Federal Government has through the
National Universities Commission, directed universities to stop
the payment of our salaries effective September this year and
since then our salaries have not been paid.

"Part of the welfare strategy, involved distributing food items,
giving out soft loans and cash advances to members."

He urged members of the public to ignore the rumour that the
strike has been called off. He said: "Nigerians should disregard
rumours making the rounds that the three months old strike has
been called off", adding that "the strike continues until the
government demonstrates a positive inclination towards
implementing the 2009 agreements and the 2012 Memorandum
of Understanding signed by both parties."

President Jonathan was reported to have said he'll end ASUU strike soon. Probably,  this is the tactic he has in place to end the strike,  like if they weren't paid,  they will return to class.

Lagos Govt. Didn’t Shut Our Church – Lord’s Chosen

Lord's Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries has denied stories that the Lagos State Government had closed the church headquarters located in the Amuwo Odofin Industrial Estate, for violating environmental laws of the state, saying the church has not been closed by any government.

In a statement, yesterday, by the church's Director of Public Relations/Press, Pastor Louis Chidi, he stated that the church and all her activities were running as usual, confirming, however, that officials of the Office of Drainage Services in the Lagos State Ministry of Environment actually gave notice about a particular facility that did not observe a certain requirement on the canal.

"Our attention has been drawn to the news being circulated that our church has been closed by the Lagos State Ministry of Environment. We wish to state the fact for the interest of our members and general public.

"First the church has not been closed by any government. The church and all her activities are running as usual.

"The fact is that officials of Lagos State Government from the Office of Drainage Services in the Ministry of Environment gave notice about a particular facility that did not observe the required set back from the canal.

"They therefore asked that the facility should not be used until necessary amendment is made. We have since complied and the facility reverted to the former status. Please take note that the church did not stop functioning because of this as there are many other facilities within the church premises.

"The second observation raised was the issue of street market that sprang up at the bus stop. We also want to state that the church never encouraged street trading within the estate or along its road because on many occasions it has caused traffic obstruction to those coming into the church premises.

"The church authority has also repeatedly warned those traders to stop desecrating the holy ground and several other efforts made to stop the illegal market were to no avail as most of them claimed to be paying rent and taxes to the 'authority.'

"Meanwhile, officials of the task force section of the ministry have already dispersed the street traders.

"We wish to state emphatically that The Lord's Chosen Church is a law-abiding ministry and will remain so in all her activities by the grace of God. The church was never closed, and above all, the cordial relationship existing between the state government and the church remains intact.

"We will continue to support and pray for the government of the state, her citizens and indeed the entire country," he stated.

Spokesman for the Lagos State Ministry of Environment, Mr. Fola Adeyemi, however stated, yesterday, that the state government's closure of the church will continue until its authorities fully comply with the environmental breaches.

Officials of the Ministry of the Environment had shut the headquarters of the Lord's Chosen and Charismatic Revival Church, Ijesha, Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos, in the morning of on October 6, 2013, and prevented wo

Falana Seeks Police Protection For Prof Aboyade After Attempts On Her Life

Following attempts on her life, Lagos lawyer and human rights activist, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), has called for police protection for the Chief Executive Officer of the Development Policy Centre (DPC), Ibadan, Oyo State, Prof. Bimpe Aboyade.

In a petition to the police on behalf of Aboyade, Falana also urged the police to charge the suspects in the alleged attempted murder to court without further delay.

After suspected assassins who were said to be acting on the instructions of one Mr. Taiwo and Mr. Kolawole Carew tried to kill her, Aboyade had raised the alarm.

According her, at about 12:30p.m. on September 17, a hired thug named Jaiyeoba armed with dangerous weapons, climbed over the wall of the DPC building and was immediately accosted and overpowered by a security man in the premises with the assistance of a visiting friend.

The petition read: "As soon as the said Jaiyeoba managed to escape, he ran to the main office of the centre, damaged the entrance door and attacked the Administrative Assistant, while the thug was shouting that he had been sent to kill our client.

"Our client, who had run out of the office, was pursued by the said Jaiyeoba until he caught up with her across the road and in front of the house of Pastor Olubi Johnson, where several policemen had already gathered.

"As the said Jaiyeoba was about putting his knife on our client's neck, a policeman pulled her away from the grip of the assassin, while he was shouting that he be allowed to kill "iya" on the instructions of Mr. Taiwo and Mr. Kolawole Carew," Aboyade alleged.

She alleged that in spite of the presence of policemen at the scene of the incident where the said Jaiyeoba grabbed her, they did nothing to calm the situation even when it was obvious that the suspect was already soaked with his blood due to the injuries he sustained from the encounter he had with the security man and his friend.

"The policemen, who were present at the scene saw that his shirt was soaked with his blood. At that juncture, Mr. Taiwo and Mr. Kolawole Carew, who the said Jaiyeoba claimed had sent him suddenly appeared at the scene and started the video recording of the said Jaiyeoba.

"Although there were more than 10 policemen from the Agodi Police Station at the scene, they did not arrest or question the said Jaiyeoba for reasons best known to them. As if that was not enough, the two members of staff of the centre who had been injured by Jaiyeoba were arrested by the police and clamped into detention at the Agodi Police Station."

Aboyade said she was invited by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Police at Iyaganku to make a statement on the matter, but to her surprise, having reported to the station in the morning, she was delayed all day without making a statement and was later ordered to be detained in a cell full of hardened criminal suspects.

"When our client demanded to know the basis of the decision to detain her she was rough-handled by two police women in their bid to force her into the cell.

"In the process our client fell down. In spite of her condition the two police women aided by a woman police officer dragged our client on the bare floor. Our client suffered a momentary heart attack which led her to request for her doctor but her request was turned down by the police.

"After about one hour of her lying prostrate on a wet floor our client was asked to sign a paper in which she and the two detained staff of the Centre were charged with attempted murder!

"By a twist of irony the said Jaiyeoba and Messrs. Taiwo and Carew were made the complainants while our client and the other victims of the unprovoked attacks became the criminal suspects.

"However, the investigation of the complaint was commenced by the police on September 21, 2013 when our client and the two staff of the centre had already been charged with attempted murder the previous day."

Aboyade said Jaiyeoba had on several occasions since May 2013 visited the centre with dangerous weapons, before the attempted murder.

She said such acts of trespass and intimidation of Jaiyeoba were reported to the Area Commanders at Agodi and Ikolaba Police stations but he was always immediately set free by the police, only to re-appear at the centre.

D’banj Opens Up About Wanting To Marry Genevieve Nnaji & Missing Don Jazzy

Nigerian Pop superstar, D'banj had an up-close chat with Punch Newspaper's JAYNE AUGOYE and spoke about a couple of things ranging from his career so far, relationship with Donjazzy and also his love for Genevieve. Here are some excerpts from the interview below.

"Apart from the fact that she is my friend, she has been a part of my success. There is no way you are going to tell my story that Genevieve's name will not come up because she featured in my biggest song of all time, Fall in Love. So if E True Story comes to Nigeria to interview me, she will definitely be called upon to tell my story," he said.

As if to confirm that there was more to his relationship with the actress than he had always admitted, D'banj added, "I would love to have Genevieve as my wife. We never can tell what God plans for us in the future. I have studied her and I realised that anyone that has her as his woman has found himself a treasure. Just like the Bible says, any man who finds a wife, finds a good thing."

Perhaps the fans and admirers of the 'love birds' will have to brace themselves for a symbolic wedding of two of the most celebrated artistes on this side of the globe in the nearest future.

Talking about Don Jazzy… the singer said;

"If I say I don't miss Don Jazzy, I am lying. I have spent the better part of my career with him. I was married to him in a way (laughs). So I miss everything about Mo'Hits: the family, the movement, and the vibe of being in the studio with him. I miss the jokes and the arguments, but I have since keyed into the notion that nothing can stop a moving train.

"Nevertheless we can always do music together. The track, 'Top of the World' was produced by a Grammy Award Winner. The songs 'Finally' and 'Don't Tell Me Nonsense' was produced by my producer while 'Oliver Twist' was produced by Don Jazzy. So, why won't I have him on my 10 years anniversary album?

"I have never said I am a musician; I am an entertainer. Some people say I can pick up a microphone and become a comedian. Therefore nobody should come and ask if I want to go into acting because they should know I am already an actor. It depends on when the right script and concept lands in my hands.

PHOTOS: Rukky Sanda Attacks Her Fans

Nollywood actress Rukky Sanda seems to be angry with fans who do not like Nigerian movies.

She posted a series of tweets on her Twitter page, ranting about Nigerians who criticise Nollywood movies.

She recently released a movie, titled Keeping My Man, which is currently showing in cinemas. Perhaps this is her way of getting Nigerians to go watch.

She did deleted the tweets later though. An apology, perhaps? See tweets below;

You Won’t Believe What Senator Smart Adeyemi Reveals on Associated Airline Crash

Senator Smart Adeyemi, PDP, Kogi West, have said that the Associated Aircraft that carried the corpse of Late Agagu to Ekiti for burial and killed MIC Boss, Deji Falae and others was on test flight.

The Senator based this claim on his own sources which helped him in independent investigations. Senator Adeyemi said the plane departed Lagos for Akure was on test flight and was under repairs before, therefore it was supposed to carry only engineers for the flight test and not passengers.

He further noted that the government, especially the Ministry of Aviation, had tried on facilities at the nation's airport but that corruption was the main cause of the problems facing the sector.

Senator Adeyemi insisted that it was pertinent to know the owner of the crashed airline and those managing it. The airports are good but have problems of technical regulators which he said was neck-deep in corruption.

It would be noted that the Senate has summoned the Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, Director-General of Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, and the Managing Director of Nigeria Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, on October 9, 2013, Wednesday.

DEMOLITION: Government Destroys Mountain Of Fire Church Regional Headquaters [Photos]

After over one year of battle between the Enugu State Government and the Mountain of Fire Ministries, the Church's regional headquarters located at Zik Avenue, Enugu was leveled this morning.

The Church had earlier dragged the government to court over the matter last year, a situation that led to what seemed to be an out-of-court resolution of the matter.

Government was reported to have given the church 20 plots of land in another location, but the church felt it should be backed by cash to enable it rebuild the multi-million naira church, especially as it allegedly had necessary documents and approvals backing its ownership of the land and the church building.

According to report, the church had requested for some time to enable it put up a structure at the new site.

It was, however, gathered that government allegedly gave the church three days to remove its properties, a notice described as too short by the church authorities.

As early as 8 a.m on Thursday, two caterpillars from the Enugu Government commenced pulling down of the church.

As at the time of filling this report, the demolition of the large church is on-going, even as worshipers are outside singing and praying.

CAN Accuses Aregbesola Of Islamising Osun

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Tuesday declared that the recent decision by the Osun State Government to mix up some Muslim students with their Christian counterparts in missionary schools, hence having students who wear hijab in such schools, was a ploy to Islamise the state.

National General-Secretary of CAN, Rev. Musa Asake, in a statement issued in Abuja, said the move by the state Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, was part of a grand plan to systematically silence Christians in the state.

According to him, if the decision by the state government was not reversed, CAN would be left with no other option than to use legal means to resist such moves.

CAN also alleged that the plans to Islamise the state was not peculiar to the education sector alone, citing a recent loan purportedly secured by the state government from the Islamic Bank.

"We have been following the events in the state. To get to this point where they are trying to bring some Muslims to mix them with Christian students is a ploy. There is a no pretence about it and we are going to resist it. I totally disagree that the Islamisation of the state is not peculiar to the education sector alone. They have an agenda.

"If you follow the event in that state and the way the governor is going about doing his own things, he has an agenda. Why is he particular about Christian schools? If he really wants to promote education in that state, why can't he build other schools? Why is he particular about Christian schools? We Christians can no longer fold our hands and allow them do what they want."

Asake further accused the past and present governments of intentionally ignoring the plight of Christians, stressing that Christians had been reduced to second class citizens in their own country.

According to him, "40 years ago, under the supervision of a Christian minority head of state, General Yakubu Gowon, someone, somewhere brought the idea that mission schools should be taken over. Now watch! 40 years later, under the supervision of another Christian minority president, Goodluck Jonathan, almajiri schools have been introduced.

Osun State government, however dismissed CAN's allegations as puerile and ignoble.

In a statement by the governor's spokesman, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, Aregbesola said: "It is most disheartening that the seething distrust and unhealthy rivalry among people of different faiths in Nigeria are the parameters which some people have decided to use to measure the actions of the governor of the state.

"For CAN to allege, once again, that Aregbesola is Islamising the state beats the imagination of every right-thinking people. This is the governor that has, for the first time, ensured fairness among people of all faiths. At least, it is on record that the three religions have at one time or the other accused the governor of promoting one religion over the other.

"What amounts to promoting one religion over the other in the thinking of the zealots is no more than the decision of the administration to allow people practise their faiths without any hindrance."

Al-Mustapha Pleads With ASUU, FG Over Lingering Strike

ASUU MEETING WITH VICE PRESIDENT NAMADI SAMBO IN ABUJA RECENTLY

Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer to late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, has decried the lingering face-off between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Speaking in Lafia, Nasarawa State capital on Tuesday when he met with youth leaders, Al-Mustapha pleaded with ASUU to call of their over three-month old strike as every day lost is a disaster to the nation.

He said, "When I went to Kaduna, I begged student leaders and ASUU, I also begged the federal government for them to find a solution to the problem".

The former security aide while justifying his call on the FG and ASUU to find an amicable and quick resolution to the strike that has grounded academic activities to a halt in the nation's universities said, "We should not be seen as producing half-baked leaders for this country tomorrow."

400 Level Student Kidnaps Landlord's Daughter For Three Years, Impregnates Her & Turns The Child To Cripple

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a 37-year-old man, Ajibola Idowu, for allegedly kidnapping the daughter of his landlord for three years.

The police said that after Brown had given birth to the child, Ajibola refused to allow the child access to immunisation.

As a result, the child was said to have contracted polio disease and subsequently became crippled.

Lagos Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Damasus Ozoani, said that Ajibola, was arrested along with his mother, Ebun, who allegedly conspired with him to commit the act.

He said, "Brown, a 400 level student of Business Administration at the Lagos State University, was kidnapped by Ajibola who kept her in captivity with his family for "three years between 2010 and 2013.

"On September 19, 2013, policemen from Area E Command, went to the Sagamu area of Ogun State to rescue the victim and also arrested the mother of the abductor, who watched over the victim. Ajibola was later arrested in the Idumota area of Lagos Island.

"During the three years, Ajibola  kept Brown in three locations -Oshogbo, Osun State, where she spent six months; Bariga, Lagos, where she spent six months; and Sagamu, Ogun State, where she spent about two years.

"Ajibola forcefully impregnated Brown while in captivity. She delivered a baby girl, who later became deformed as a result of Ajibola's refusal to have the baby immunised against the Polio virus."

Brown described her ordeal in the hands of her abductor as a journey through the valley of the shadow of death. She said she was abducted at her father's house in the Ebute Meta area of Lagos State.

She said, "I can't even remember how he kidnapped me. All I know is that he held me captive for three years. It's as if I was under a spell. Even when I was going to give birth, he did not allow me to go to a hospital. The baby was delivered at home and he was the one giving me medication.

"Even one day, when state officials came to the area to immunise children, he said he would not allow the child to be immunised, saying the drugs had been poisoned. Once, when I tried to leave, he threatened to kill me."

It was learnt that during her time in captivity, the victim's parents, who are retired civil servants, searched hospitals, mortuaries, police stations and churches for her all to no avail.

The victim's father, Idowu Brown, said he had no clue that Ajibola was the abductor. He said, "I never knew it was Ajibola that kidnapped my daughter. He was my tenant for six years and greeted me every day. We even used to share jokes. He was aware that I had been looking "for my daughter for three years but he never said anything.

"When we could not find her, I reported the matter at FESTAC Police Division. It was in September this year that we heard from our daughter for the first time. She told us that she was in Sagamu and my wife went there.

"There we met Ajibola's mother. That was how we found out that he (tenant) was the one behind the whole thing."

The suspects however denied abducting the landlord's daughter. Ajibola's mother claimed her son and Brown were lovers, who decided to elope, maintaining that the case was not an abduction.

She said, "They were lovers. I never got involved in their matter until the child was born. I went to stay with them for about seven months to take care of the child, who was very ill. A few months after I left, they moved in with me at my three-bedroom house at Sagamu because they had been evicted.

"Ajibola was not staying with us because his business was in Lagos but I was with Brown "most of the time. Many times, I would ask her about her parents and when I could meet them but she kept on giving silly excuses until the day her mother came to my house with policemen."

Ajibola, who is into satellite dish installation, said the plan to elope was hatched by Brown who paid N200, 000 into his bank account. The money was said to have been meant for her school project.

He said he could not understand why she would make such allegations against him.

"I did not kidnap her; we were lovers and decided to elope. Even when she was at my house, she used to make calls to her relatives telling them that she was alright," he said.
