A statement released by the Plateau State Government has announced the death of Chief Solomon Daushep Lar, the first civilian governor of the state. He died at the age of 80 at a hospital in the United States after a protracted illness. His death was announced by Governor Jonah Jang on Wednesday. He said the late Lar died at about 3.00 a.m American time (about 9.00 a.m Nigerian time). Lar was an active Nigerian politician and held several roles over the period of 30 years. He was a member of the first national parliament in 1960 when the nation gained independence, he was elected Governor of Plateau State under the Shagari era and was the first chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 1999.
