Speaking at a Ministerial Round-table on Nigeria's Economy, an event which was organized by the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) at the Saint Regis Hotel in Washington, DC, yesterday, Alhaji Dangote said that Nigeria's economy would be growing in double folds if there was a good infrastructure, credit growth and sufficient power supply. He added that these problems were the reasons behind the economic problems in Nigeria.

He pressed further that the federal government had been making efforts to tackle the challenges facing Nigeria's economy just as he stressed that there was an optimism that the country's economy would grow at 6.5 Per Cent.

Giving an overview of Nigeria's economy, Minister for Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said that the economy of Nigeria was strong particularly when it was compared with what is happening around the world. She added that the economy was growing faster, saying that the Nigerian government was optimistic that it would soon grow to 6.5 Per Cent.

Her words: "The security issues that we have in Nigeria has drawn our economy back but with the emergency rule in the affected states, we hope that the economy will go up because when you look at all the indicators to the economy, one will see that there is an economy that is vibrant in Nigeria. The key issue confronting the economy is unemployment, we are not providing many jobs but i can say that this is a common problem with some nations in the world"

Also addressing the Round-table, FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, said that Nigeria was being put on the international map as a result of the transformation agenda of the federal government which he said had brought a lot of reforms to almost all the sectors in the country.
